Silence+Other Sounds – Hellen brings is an ambient and eerie Kontakt library that brings to life ghostly voices and creature like sounds for sound designers, composers and music producers. It was developed by Silence+Other Sounds. Hellen is rooted in experimental vocal performances and modern sound design techniques and provides a wide palette of eerie and expressive sonic content perfect for horror, thriller and cinematic music productions. Hellen combines multisampled vocal recordings by vocalist Alessandra Cognetta (also called as Psamathes) with an array of processed sound design elements and includes whispers, screams, growls, breath loops and atonal textures.
This combination makes it an effective tool for building unsettling atmospheres, creating creature sound effects or adding dramatic vocal layers to soundtracks. The library is distributed as a Kontakt instrument that means it is created for use within Native Instruments’ Kontakt sampler engine. Playable instruments and sound design modules are included in it and allows users to explore textures as well as sculpt special sonic environments.

- A total of 12 instrument modules with one main playable vocal textures instrument and additional one-shot SFX instruments like screams, laments, whispers, growls and more are included in Hellen.
- A broad range of vocal styles from operatic soprano samples to tremolo screams, whispered phrases and atonal textures are the features of the library. It enables dramatic contrasts and complex layering.
- The Vocal Textures instrument enables blending of two independent layers (L1 and L2), which can be filtered, modulated and morphed using intuitive controls, including a strong Vocal Morph knob.
- Each one-shot SFX module can be used per sample with controls for volume, pitch, filters, LFOs and envelopes. Users can also reverse samples and play them chromatically across the keyboard
- The Syllables Sequencer (for rhythmically synced syllable groups in a fictional language) and the Breath Sequencer (for tempo-synced breathing loops are the two sequencers included in Hellen. There’s also a Vocalise Builder tool for generating custom layered voices
